When
you begin to plan your next Walt Disney World vacation, keep these numbers
in mind:
- 24 (the
number of hotels on property)
- 250
(the number of rides, shows, and other attractions on property)
- 225
(the number of restaurants on property)
- 125
(the number of merchandise retail shops on property)
- 75,000-125,000
(the number of other guests on property on any given day)
Needless
to say, you'll have a hard time fitting it all into your trip, unless
you're staying for two or three months!
Now
let's look at a few more numbers that should play into your planning.
Suppose you're a party of three (2 adults and one child age 3-9 years),
traveling to WDW for a 7-day, 6-night stay. You're staying at one of
Disney's moderate resorts (with more amenities than a value, but not as extravagant as a
deluxe), where the pricing ranges from $139 to $215 per night, plus tax.
We'll assume the minimum rack rate for this calculation. You'll be using
7-day "premium" Magic Your Way park tickets (the premium feature
includes the ability to visit more than one park each
day--"park-hopping"--and allows for visits to the water parks,
Pleasure Island, and a few other nice add-ons), and as a smart shopper,
you're buying the tickets in advance by telephone to save a few dollars
off the on-site prices. Those park tickets are $268 each for adults, and
$231 for children. You're budgeting for one full service meal (estimated
cost of $25 per meal per adult and $15 per meal for the child) and one
counter service meal each day (estimated cost of $11 per meal per adult
and $5 per meal for the child) for six days. Here's the breakdown:
- Hotel: $154 per night; $924 for your stay (including tax)
- Tickets $268 per adult, $231 for the child; $767 for all
three tickets
- Meals $25 per adult and $15 for the child (full service), $11
per adult and $5 for the child (counter service); $552 for two full
meals
...for
a grand total of $2243 for your stay
Looking
at it another way, that's...
- $320 per day for seven days
- $23 per hour, assuming 14-hour days
And
remember, the $2243 doesn't include souvenirs, drinks and snacks besides
the two meals, transportation from home to WDW and back, or any
extras to make your vacation more special.
Wow!
That's a major investment, and your actual vacation is likely to be even more
expensive. You may choose a hotel upgrade, one or more of the many
elegant--and higher priced--restaurants, a separately-priced guided tour,
a special event, souvenirs, cocktails by the pool...the list goes on and
on and the price goes higher and higher!
But
make no mistake: WDW is Worth The Price!!!
Of
course, with so much to see and do, so many rides and attractions to
experience, so much dining to choose from, so many stores and shops to
browse, you can easily get lost in Mickey's maze. To make the most of your
visit, you need to plan. Plan well in advance. Plan thoroughly. Don't be
like so many visitors, riding the monorail back to the hotel on the last
day, lamenting that there's so much they didn't get to do, so much they
didn't find out about until it was too late, that they went here
when they should've gone there.
So,
what's the best way to make sure you'll stay at the hotel that's best for
your taste (and your budget), take in all the attractions you'll want to
experience while bypassing any that don't suit your interests, eat at restaurants
that serve the foods you love, and browse the right shops for souvenirs
that you want to take home with you?
