Canada
(photos below)
I love the Canada pavilion
in World Showcase. The theming is so intricate, and ranges
from the more rustic woodland settings (note the totem poles
and the trading post type of shop) to the more metropolitan
area with the tall, imposing skyscraper. (It’s one of my
favorite photo objects—particularly when you take stairs to
the lower levels of the pavilion and shoot against the bright
blue Florida sky.) And speaking of the shop, you’ll find a
wide variety of Canadian merchandise here, from maple candies
to back packs and other accessories by Roots, to plush Husky
pups, warm clothing and fragrant perfumes and colognes. Once,
not too long ago, this pavilion sold a pastry called beaver
tails, but they haven’t been available for months now. (I
think it’s time to wage a massive call-in to the
powers-that-be in Disney Merchandising until somebody
starts cooking them again!)
The movie associated with
this pavilion is called “O Canada!” Some of my Canadian
friends complained that it was dated, but as of September 1,
2007, the old film was replaced by a new version. With the exception of several
instrumental strains occurring throughout the film, most of
the song is heard at the end, in both English and French. “O
Canada, you’re a lifetime of wonder on this planet Earth.”
One of the most popular
music groups at Epcot also performs in Canada. They’re
called Off-Kilter, and as soon as their drums, bagpipes, and
guitars cue up, guests start scrambling to see the show. If
you like what you hear, the group has CDs for sale in the
Canadian shops.
You’ll find the
restaurant, called Le Cellier, after you stroll through
Victoria Gardens. Though I cover it more thoroughly in my
website’s restaurant section, the menu features a cheddar
cheese soup that has gathered quite a following. Entrees may
come and go here, but it seems you can always count on the
cheddar cheese soup and the soft pretzel bread. Oh, why
didn’t I make a reservation for my next trip?
