Cantina de San Angel
La Cantina de San Angel, the counter service restaurant located
in Epcot World Showcase's Mexico pavilion, is a new restaurant
housed in a new building, replacing the old version at the same spot
along the shore of World Showcase Lagoon (to see our page covering

here). This large structure is home to both La Cantina as well
as La Hacienda de San Angel, a second table service establishment in
Mexico (the original San Angel
Inn restaurant, located across World Showcase Promenade in the
large Aztec pyramid, remains open for business as well).
The food here is, of course, Mexican, with both beef and chicken
tacos on the menu, along with several other entrees. Several Mexican
fruit beverages are available, including the delicious Agua Fresca,
as well as bottled Jarritos Fruit Sodas and Margaritas. Dining is
"mostly" outdoor, in open-air, but covered, seating areas
which project out over the waters of World Showcase Lagoon. A few
weeks after opening, additional seating was available inside; this
area is really part of the Hacienda dining room. We're uncertain
whether this will always be open to Guests of La Cantina during
lunch, or if it's just for now while the restaurant is new (or maybe
to be offered during peak periods).
As seems to be the case with new dining opportunities at Walt
Disney World Resort, La Cantina opened with a terrific new menu--and
startlingly high prices for those menu items! Check out the menu--entrees
range from $7.25 (for dressed-down nachos!!) to $11.95 for beef
tacos! Say that a party of two orders a couple of entrees and adds
specialty fruit drinks (non-alcoholic), and they're facing a $30
check! Yikes!
With the high prices noted, we'd like to be quick to point out
that the food here is quite good! We've been unimpressed with the
food quality from any eateries in the Mexico pavilion for quite some
time, but after a visit to San Angel Inn in July 2010, followed by
lunch at the new La Cantina de San Angel in September 2010, we must
concede that the food in this pavilion is really improving. Don't
let the prices scare you away--enjoy some delicious Mexican food
with the convenience of counter service: stop in at La Cantina de
San Angel on your next visit to Walt Disney World!
