Casey's Corner
(photos below)
Here's a sports-oriented counter service restaurant--it's
something of an extension of Main Street Athletic Club just
down Main Street (and connected to Casey's Corner through a
back corridor).
Casey's Corner features "very" light fare--more
like snack food than "meal food," in my opinion. The
hot dogs, fries, and drinks are much the same as you'd expect
to get from the concessions stand at a baseball game, which of
course matches the theming of the place perfectly!! There are plenty of hot dog-oriented
condiments available here, items like sauerkraut, relish, and
chili in addition to the ubiquitous catsup, mustard, and
mayonnaise.

In the rear of the restaurant is a small
"stadium" where patrons can eat their wieners in the
stands while watching vintage sports-themed cartoons on a
projection screen. The cartoons include some black-and-white
featurettes of Goofy and Mickey Mouse, among others.
The restaurant has lots of vintage Coca-Cola
decorations, including old advertising materials, bottles and
coolers, and the soda fountain itself. It's worth a look if
you like old soda-pop memorabilia whether you eat here or not.
In my opinion, the very best thing about
Casey's Corner is that it's one of the few counter service
restaurants at WDW that offers fresh-brewed iced tea, instead
of the "tea-on-tap" from the soda fountain as is
altogether too often the case. It seems that a couple of years
ago, the trend at WDW was toward using soda-fountain iced tea
instead of fresh brewed in virtually all of the counter
service restaurants--and it was even finding its way into
certain of the table service restaurants as well (including Le
Cellier and San Angel Inn, both over in Epcot.
Le Cellier has
switched back to fresh brewed, but as of late 2004, San Angel
Inn was still offering "tea-on-tap"--much to
my displeasure, as I don't like the taste at all!!). As of
mid-2005, fresh-brewed iced tea was fairly easy to find even
at many counter service eateries, but soda-fountain tea still
pops up from time to time, so if you don't like it--be sure to
ASK before ordering!!
So, in short--whether you want a hot dog or
not, please do stop by Casey's Corner to grab an iced tea and
check the place out!!
