Catalina Eddie's
(photos below)
One of two counter service eateries in Disney's Hollywood
Studios that serves pizza (the other is the famous Toy
Story Pizza Planet), Catalina Eddie's is conveniently
located along Sunset Avenue just ahead of Tower
of Terror and Rock n'
Roller Coaster. (If you prefer to eat pizza in a table
service environment, check out Mama
Melrose's where pizzas and flatbreads made in the wood
fired oven are on the menu--and
very yummy!!)
Catalina Eddie's has only outdoor seating--not so great
when the weather is bad or the temperature is too high, but
very nice on those comfortable days in the fall and spring.
The theming here is good, synergizing with Rosie's All-Star
Cafe right next door to create a World War II conservation
effort motif, including a "Victory garden" and
plenty of period "stuff" as part of the decor.
A terrific aspect of Catalina Eddie's is the fresh-brewed
iced tea. It seems like so few of the counter service
restaurants want to go to the trouble of brewing tea, opting
instead for the "tea on tap" made from tea-flavored
"syrup" in the soda fountain--YUKK! When you eat
here, be sure to order a large (yes, they still offer large
drinks too!) iced tea and enjoy it with your meal.
Despite the (very) quick-service feel of this place, the
food is really quite good. The pizzas have a nice sprinkling
of Italian herbs (tastes like basil, but there may be other
spices too), which is something most counter-service pizzas at
Disney are lacking. Additionally, because of the salads on the
menu, Catalina Eddie's keeps packets of Ken's dressing on
hand, in Ranch, Caesar, and Blue Cheese. The Blue Cheese
dressing is especially hard to find, but it sure tastes great
as a sauce to dip the pizza crust into. If you like pizza
dipping sauce, give the blue cheese dressing a try--it's even
available here at no additional charge!
