Cretaceous Trail
(photos below)
With entrances by Chester and Hester's Dinosaur Treasures
souvenir shop and near the entrance to Dinosaur
courtyard, the Cretaceous Trail is a quiet, shady walkway
through a garden of modern-day plants which existed during the
dinosaur period in Earth's history. It's just a bit like being
able to walk into Ellen's Energy Adventure in Epcot--only the
plants are real here.
The short paved walkway has several benches along the way,
and the shade is nice on a hot, sunny day! Unfortunately, like
most of Animal Kingdom, the dense foliage blocks any breeze
that may be blowing and actually seems to trap heat, so don't
expect any significant cooling effect on this trail.
Near the Dinosaur end, there's a large dinosaur statue for
the kids to climb onto. The area around the dinosaur is paved
with rubber conglomerate (as at Pooh's Playful Spot in Magic
Kingdom and Honey, I Shrunk the Kids Movie Set Adventure
playground at Disney-MGM Studios) so that falls will be broken
softly.
Because of the more passive entertainment here (or maybe
because it's not listed on the guidemap), there are usually
not very many guests here--making it a good place to get away
from the crowds when you feel like Ariel
must've from time to time after her conversion in The
Little Mermaid: "I don't want to be
where the people are..."
