The King's Gallery
(photos below)
Important Note: The King's
Gallery store space is scheduled to become a second location
of Bibbidi Bobbidi
Boutique, with an opening in September 2007. We will keep
an eye on this situation and report where (and if) The King's
Gallery moves.
UPDATE! (April 28, 2008) The
King's Gallery appears to have been relegated to WDW history,
but its unique items, including the collection of
Medieval-style swords and knightly accessories, have appeared
in the Main Street U.S.A. chapter of Arribas
Brothers Crystal. Arribas Brothers has enjoyed a
significant expansion, with plenty of floor space to include
the swords and much more.
Inside Cinderella Castle in the heart of the
Magic Kingdom, is not only Cinderella's Royal Table, the
immensely popular restaurant, but also a shop known as The
King's Gallery. To enter this establishment, it's probably
easiest to go around to the back of the Castle and enter the
walkway with the reception area for Cinderella's Royal Table
on your left, and the entrance to The King's Gallery will be
through a door on the right. There is no sign to point out
this store, as the entrances (there are two, but the one
closer to the front is frequently blocked to create a
backstage area for the performances that occur on the Castle
Forecourt Stage) are on the same wall as the tile mural.
Inside, you'll find lots of collectibles, many
of them unique to this shop. In addition to a wide selection
of art prints--both framed and unframed (matted and unmatted),
there are plenty of sculptures, including a good selection of
crystal. Here's the place to find Cinderella's glass slipper,
a crystal sculpture of Cinderella Castle, and even some
kitschy crystal guitars. There are also displays of
swords--the kind that you could outfit a knight with!
The decor here matches the Castle wonderfully,
carrying the style from the restaurant above into the cavelike
atmosphere below, where dark wood and subdued lighting all
converge into a time capsule of what it must've been like in a
medieval castle--if there had been conveniences such as
spotlighting for art and digital cash registers way back in
the day, that is!
When in the Magic Kingdom, don't miss this
terrific shop--it's easy to overlook, but the treasures that
await your discovery here are worth making a note to remind
yourself!
