The Magic Carpets of Aladdin
In Adventureland, there's a spinning ride
just in front of the Enchanted Tiki Room called The Magic
Carpets of Aladdin. This is one of several different rides
which employ the same ride mechanism (Dumbo, Astro Orbiter,
and Triceratops Spin are the three others). This ride was
added just a few years ago, and is complemented by some
shopping nearby.
This ride features magic carpets which can
seat up to four guests in two "bench" seats. The
carpets fly in a circular motion around a central axis.
Controls mounted at each seat allow the riders to adjust the
flight altitude as well as the tilt (front-to-back) of the
vehicle.
It's a fun ride, suitable for guests of any
age, but when the line is long, be sure to weigh the value of
the fun you'll have here against the time you'll spend waiting
for your ride. There's no FastPass, and the line moves fairly
slowly. Your "air time" will not be very long
either. Of course, if younger members of your party want to,
you'll need to give them the opportunity to ride--but groups
without children (or with kids who don't care to experience
this one) may wish to pass on this ride. There's
an old Steppenwolf song about this very subject. Perhaps you
remember it? Aronda points out that a passage from it
certainly rings true for her. It goes something like this: Last
night I held Aladdin's lamp, so I wished that I could stay
Before the thing could answer me someone came and took the
lamp away.
I looked around, a lousy candle's all I found... Yeah.
Well, that part about about wishing "that I could
stay," who among us has been at WDW and not made that
wish--especially on our last night!!?? When
you're walking around this area, be sure to watch out for the
large camel--he has the rather nasty habit of spitting at
guests!!
