The Big Cheese Tour starts at Disney's BoardWalk

The Big Cheese World Tour began Friday, May 11 at Walt Disney World's BoardWalk. The "Big Cheese" was not, however, the beloved Mouse you might have expected. Instead, this event celebrates a rat--the star of the soon-to-be-released Disney/Pixar film "Ratatouille," a hilarious comedy about a rat named Remy who dreams of becoming a great French chef,

The Big Cheese World Tour is highlighted by a thrilling "Big Cheese Slide" which gives kids an exciting ride down a 25' wedge of cheese. Guests are also treated to a special sneak peek at "Ratatouille" inside the 30' state-of-the-art "Eiffel Tower Digital Theater." A Center Stage area showcases daily cooking demonstrations with a real chef featuring Tasty Treats and Healthy Snacks' for busy families as well as daily shows featuring "Ratatouille" video game demonstrations, radio promotions and an inside look at how the animation for "Ratatouille" was created. Guests also see multiple making-of pieces at various kiosks.

The tour is being supported by a fantastic lineup of promotional partners. Tour goers can interact with Intel Corporation's roaming ambassador chefs, equipped with Intel Centrino Duo processor technology-based laptops using Intel Core 2 Duo processors, where they can take photos with the "Ratatouille" characters superimposed into the picture, play an interactive game or register for a chance to win an array of prizes. The tour chefs will feature recipes from the General Mills' portfolio of brands and attendees can sample Chocolate Chex cereal as available. Samsung is providing all of the appliances on stage and plasma screens throughout the tour. THQ is providing video game demonstration kiosks where consumers get a chance to sample the latest game.

"Ratatouille" is the story of a rat named Remy who dreams of becoming a great chef despite his family's wishes and the obvious problem of being a rat in a decidedly rodent-phobic profession. When fate places Remy in the city of Paris, he finds himself ideally situated beneath a restaurant made famous by his culinary hero, Auguste Gusteau. Despite the apparent dangers of being an unwanted visitor in the kitchen at one of Paris' most exclusive restaurants, Remy forms an unlikely partnership with Linguini, the garbage boy, who inadvertently discovers Remy's amazing talents. They strike a deal, ultimately setting into motion a hilarious and exciting chain of extraordinary events that turns the culinary world of Paris upside down. "Ratatouille" opens in theaters nationwide on June 29, 2007.

"Though the snippets of publicity for 'Ratatouille' I've seen so far have been modestly appealing," says Dann Hazel, one of Aronda's Making Memories staff, "the extended excerpts from the film shown as part of the Big Cheese Tour had me both laughing hysterically and gripping the seat of my chair in suspense--particularly when Remy is torn between wanting to season a soup just right and trying to escape a dangerous kitchen. I really think this movie will have huge popular appeal. How could Pixar-Disney possibly go wrong with a movie about a subject we all love?"

Recipe cards were also available to guests who showed up for a cooking demo.

The Big Cheese World Tour is scheduled to visit:

Pirates themed Disney Dollars sail into Walt Disney World

Three new Disney Dollars themed to Pirates of the Caribbean are arriving at Walt Disney World Resort this spring to celebrate the third chapter in the "Pirates" film series. Each bill, available in $1 denominations, features a stylized skull and crossbones on the front. Distinguishing the three bills is each film's flagship vessel (The Black Pearl, The Flying Dutchman, and a new ship that will be unveiled in the third film) on the back.

The first two bills (themed to "Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl" and "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest") are currently available for purchase and use at merchandise locations on Disney property. The third bill was released May 15, 2007, just prior to the nationwide release of "Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End."

Aronda purchased a fistful of these new Disney Dollars, and she wants to share them with you--her loyal NewsPad subscribers. Making Memories is the best WDW travel guide available, and you're invited to place your order for this incredible vacation-planning resource for only $16.95--that's 25% off the cover price of $22.95. If you order now through May 31, 2007, we'll include a free special-edition Pirates of the Caribbean Disney Dollar with your book! Click here to learn more about this special offer and about Making Memories.

Project Tomorrow is here today

Recently, the new post-show opened at Spaceship Earth, beginning the phase-in of several interactive games in this long-deserted area. The space is now rethemed with a futuristic feel, with lighting, furniture, and attractions all adding to the pleasant atmosphere. In the center of the space is a giant animated globe, reminiscent of the geosphere housing the feature attraction. It looks as though four additional interactive attractions are planned for Project Tomorrow; two are currently up and running.

Yak & Yeti construction is coming right along

The new Asian restaurant in Disney's Animal Kingdom is progressing nicely, and will hopefully meet its scheduled 2007 opening--although it's certain to be late in the year. The photos below were taken on Sunday, May 13.

Additionally, we understand that Tusker House in Harambe is going to be closed for conversion to a buffet. Donald's Breakfastosaurus is to be closed, with breakfast and characters to be offered at the Tusker House venue instead. Lunch and dinner at Tusker House is expected to be "regular" buffets without characters. More on this as it develops.
