Pizzafari
Animal Kingdom, while it suffers a paucity of table service
eateries, seems to have lots of good-quality counter service
available, and Pizzafari is a glowing example. As the name
suggests, this restaurant offers pizza, but it also makes a good
sandwich, and a great Caesar salad too!
The pizzas here are the same as the "personal"
size offered elsewhere on property (think Toy
Story Pizza Planet, for example), but this establishment
goes a notch further with breadsticks as a side item. The
breadsticks are made of pizza dough with cheese baked on top,
served with marinara sauce on the side. The marinara sauce can
be had with a pizza as well--at no extra charge--just ask for
it when you pick up your order. The sandwich offering is a Hot
Italian, with plenty of cold cuts and sliced cheese--a big,
nice sandwich that really doesn't taste "counter
service." The iced tea, however, is, "Gold
Peak" which comes from what looks like a "real"
tea urn but is actually a sort of soda fountain type
device--and the taste is terribly synthetic. If you prefer your tea to be fresh brewed, you'll need to look
elsewhere (unfortunately, as of late summer 2009, all counter
service eateries across WDW property seem to be converting to
this product--you may have to patronize a table service
restaurant to get fresh brewed iced tea!), or substitute water or a carbonated beverage while
dining here.
The restaurant is located on Discovery Island in Animal
Kingdom, and in keeping with the theme of this area, the
building is decorated in bright, splashy colors. There are
several dining rooms arranged off of a central hallway; each
room has a different fanciful-animal theme. Look for carved,
painted snails crawling along the roof beams in one room; a
bird motif in another. There's plenty of indoor seating here,
so you're likely to find a place to sit in the cool even
during busier seasons.
Like the other counter service restaurants
inside Animal Kingdom park, Pizzafari accepts the Disney
Dining Experience card (now known as Tables in Wonderland), so be sure to show yours if you have
one to save 20% off your bill.
