Disney World International Press Event Part Two |
|
|
As the press entered Epcot at 7:00 p.m., cast members
received them with glasses of champagne as they made their way to the
buffet and then, on to Mission: SPACE. Disney really went over the top
with "The Sky's the Limit" party, with first-class
entertainment, fireworks, celebrities and a great buffet.

A Segway with attitude!
A party to top all parties, even cast members pulled out all the stops with edgy costumes like this--which gave an even greater "out-of-this-world" effect to the festivities. |
|
|
After dinner, members of the press gathered around the
Mission: SPACE stage to hear dedications by Disney CEO Michael Eisner, HP
CEO and Board Chairwoman Carly Fiorina, and NASA Administrator Sean
O'Keefe.
When O'Keefe took the podium, he announced that "some special guests weren't able to make it tonight, but they have a few words they'd like to say." At that point, a satellite feed from the International Space Station brought us the good wishes of NASA ISS Science Officer Ed Lu and Expedition 7 Commander Yuri Malenchenko. |

After the "explosive" dedication, journalists who
"chose to go" queued up for a ride. In our opinion, it's a
phenomenal attraction. We can't imagine real spaceflight feeling much
different from the Mission: SPACE experience. In fact, the realism is so
intense, you don't want to disregard any instructions on your mission, for
fear you'll be responsible for anything that might "go
wrong."
Dann can't ride the Tea Cups without getting sick--but after about 15 minutes of feeling a bit out of sorts, the feeling dissipated. However, we heard several people say their discomfort lasted longer than that. If you're prone to motion sickness, you may want to pass. |

The B-52s took to the stage after the dedication (though you can't see them well here). The concert was wonderful, and led up to a spectacular fireworks display over Spaceship Earth. (None of our photos of the fireworks came out well enough to post.) |

Shortly before the fireworks began, the US flag was projected against Spaceship Earth. |
