50s Prime Time Cafe
(photos below)
This table service restaurant, located adjacent to Echo
Lake and near Indiana Jones Stunt Show
Spectacular, features
an incredible atmosphere coupled with great-tasting,
reasonably-priced food.
The theme is your childhood home back in the 50s when you
were a kid (if not, you can easily imagine what it would have
been like by recalling all those classic sit-com TV shows you
saw in rerun over the years). The decor is clearly 50s
(picture the home of the Incredibles, only tackier!), complete
with large black-n-white television sets visible from each
table. The TV sets runs clips from such classic shows as
"Dennis the Menace," "Topper," "The
Dick van Dyke Show" and others. The clips generally cover
some aspect of family meals, and they set the stage for the
goings-on in the restaurant during your meal.
Your server is actually your mom, or cousin, or older
brother, or...you get the idea...and you're subjected to
rigorously enforced table etiquette, parental critique, and
just plain stereotypical familial pathology. Be careful not to
make a mess, don't put your elbows on the table, and by all
means, be sure to eat all of your green beans!
Now, all of this may "sound" like less than the
most fun you could have, but really, it's a great experience.
The vast majority of folks who've dined here love their
experience, and indeed, Aronda visits every chance she gets!
The vintage kitsch, the cranky familial units, the
classic TV played on old-fashioned sets---it all adds up to
beaucoup fun!! If you were the victim of a less-than-pleasant
home environment when you were growing up (or even if you
weren't), assert the authority you didn't realize you had at
your lunch or dinner at 50s Prime Time! You're gonna love this
place!!
The food served here is home style fare, such as meatloaf,
chicken soup, and fried chicken, and it's all top-notch stuff.
The fried chicken is considered by many to be the best to be
had anywhere, and Aronda agrees wholeheartedly. If you prefer,
don't be shy about asking for two breasts--it can be had at no
extra charge. The price is affordable here, with entrees in
the $12-16 price range, and both lunch and dinner are priced
the same (making for a more affordable dinner than at many
table service eateries at WDW).
50s Prime Time Cafe and the full-service bar (Tune-In
Lounge) honor the Disney Dining Experience
card, so be sure to show yours if you have one to save 20% off
your bill (before gratuity).
If you've been to 50s Prime Time and you have a story about
your experience you'd be willing to share, please write
Aronda with it. She loves learning of other folks'
experiences, and she'd love to add your story to this webpage!

A television set in the waiting
area. Like the sets elsewhere in the restaurant, it plays
vintage TV from the 50s.

An end table with a lamp and
figurine in the waiting area. This is just a small sample of
the kitsch you'll find in this restaurant!
