Rock 'n' Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith
There's a high-speed roller coaster type thrill ride at
Disney-MGM Studios that's a "can't miss" attraction
for the thrill ride loving crowd!! This indoor roller coaster
features a terrific track layout, including an upside-down
loop, a "corkscrew" maneuver, and an incredibly
quick takeoff.
The story here is that we're touring G-Force Records, a
recording studio in which Aerosmith is cutting a new record.
We see the band during the preshow movie (actually, a
combination of actual set and a very lifelike movie). The band
has a performance scheduled across town (L.A.), but they don't
want to leave us, their loyal fans, behind, so they arrange
with their manager for us to get backstage passes. The manager
calls in a limo to take us to the show ("a stretch...no,
better make it a super stretch"), and just as she informs
us that our car's in the alley out back, Steve Tyler and the
crew blast off for the Forum, leaving their manager behind.
In the alley, we board the limo, which takes us on one very
quick ride through L.A. (and indeed through the Hollywood
sign's "O"), then puts us off at the back entrance
to the concert hall, which actually turns out to be the gift
shop.
This is a wonderfully themed ride, and certainly a crowd
pleaser--for those who like life in the fast lane, anyway!!
The limo has a sound system--tuned to a medley of Aerosmith
songs, of course--and my favorite part of the music is at the
end, when Aerosmith makes a slight revision to one of its
songs, singing "love in a roller coaster". I guess
this is a nod to their "competition" thrill
attraction across Sunset Boulevard!!
This ride features FastPass, and as the lines can be long
during peak times, it's often a handy way to avoid waiting an
hour to experience this one. Additionally, the band
photographer manages to snap your picture during your initial
takeoff, so be sure to smile as you first enter the freeway!!
