Sci-Fi Drive-In Dine-In
Restaurant
This is a table service restaurant located in Disney's
Hollywood Studios next door to the Writer's
Stop bookstore/coffeeshop, and just down the street from
the ABC Commissary. In fact, the reception area of
Sci-Fi connects to the Writer's Stop, so that folks waiting to
be seated can browse the bookstore until their table is ready.
The Sci-Fi is themed as a classic outdoor drive-in movie
theater, with a large "parking lot" fenced in inside
the building and a large movie screen in the front. The tables
are set up as classic cars parked in the theater lot. The
movie screen shows vintage science fiction movie clips,
cartoons, and theater promotional pieces from the 50s and 60s.
There's a classic Tom and Jerry cartoon in which Jerry becomes
an astronaut, and Tom gets involved, a "News from the
Future" sequence in which a futuristic kitchen is
displayed, an automatic car is demonstrated, and more, and a
couple of sci-fi movies are sampled as well. The first time I
ate here, I was really surprised to discover that I had
already actually seen one of the films featured here--one
about a man who became a giant, losing his mind as he grew
larger--really weird to say the least!!
The food here is fairly reasonably priced. In this case
especially, you'll get only what you paid for in terms of
quality--if you're lucky!! Menu fare includes burgers and
similar sandwiches, a few pasta offerings, and the like.
Nothing haute here, and unfortunately, nothing with much taste
either!! The desserts seem to be a bit better than the
entrees, but the food is, in my opinion, no reason to eat
here. However, the theming is terrific, and for the fairly low
price (for full service dining), you may wish to consider
giving it a try.
I really wish that the food quality would improve here, as
I must confess, I do enjoy eating here--even if only to soak
up the great ambience!!

display outside the restaurant. These "cars" have
bar-style tables
at each bench seat. Note the Ford Pinto
hubcaps on the wheels!!
