Sounds Dangerous

At the Disney-MGM Studios, there are attractions devoted to the various facets of moviemaking, including animation (The Animation Tour), the backstage work (The Backlot Tour), stunts (Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular and Lights! Motors! Action!), and sound effects--which is where Drew Carey's Sounds Dangerous fits in.

This show building has been home to several sound effects shows over the life of the Studios, with Sounds Dangerous being the latest--though it's been here for quite some time now. It's located next to Golden Age Souvenirs, right across the walkway from Echo Lake. The attraction is a sound effects show in which the audience slips on a pair of headphones and views a "live" television show featuring Drew Carey as a security officer, trying to blow the lid off of a diamond-smuggling ring. As an undercover investigator, he wears a hidden camera disguised as a tie tack in addition to a microphone. As luck would have it, the camera goes on the fritz, leaving the theater in total darkness for much of the performance. The sound effects are the only parts of the show still functioning during the dark periods, and they are fairlyreasonably good at conveying the action that the camera isn't "seeing" during the blackout.

The show is decent, but unfortunately, in Aronda's opinion, it seems to lack "something" to make it a really compelling attraction. With the sustained darkness, younger kids may find themselves uneasy, while some adults may find themselves wanting to remove the headphones for a relaxing break from the hot, sunny Florida weather outside. The theater shows wear and tear from years of use (though it never seems to fill up), and the whole show could use some sprucing up. However, some of the audio effects are pretty impressive, so if you have the time, do consider stopping by and checking it out. Aronda hadn't attended a show for a couple of years (because she remembered being unimpressed with it), but recently tried it again. While she still felt that it was a "B" ticket attraction, she did find herself enjoying it much more than she had expected!
