This attraction is one of my favorites—and I expect it will be one of yours, too! You board log-shaped vehicles to float through one of the most intricate show buildings in Disney park history. But don’t think this one is a serene experience by any means. You’re headed straight for the Briar Patch, a destination reachable by taking a 53-foot plummet down one of the few “mountains” located in Florida . The experience begins calmly enough as you float through the mountain interior, looking at a number of tableaux from Song of the South, a Disney movie classic (relegated to the so-called Disney Vault, as the movie displays rather patronizing views of minorities). The show scenes are first-rate Imagineering delights—and the suspense heightens as you take a few “sissy” plunges toward the Briar Patch. As the scenes grow darker, the mood grows ominous, and there are vultures to hint that you may be in for a heap of trouble. But after the huge fall, the attraction’s cast celebrates your survival with a huge showboat rendition of Zip-A-Dee-Doo-Dah.
