Pizza Window
(photos below)
Disney's BoardWalk
Inn & Villas, located in the Epcot Resort Area (and
easily accessible by walkway from both Epcot and Disney-MGM
Studios, in addition to several other resorts in the area), is
an attraction in itself, with plenty of shopping
opportunities, several nightclub venues, and more than a few
eateries, along with evening entertainment and an ambience
that makes this a delightful place to visit.
One of the eateries here is a walk-up
"pizza window" which opens into a mini-kitchen
inside the front of Spoodles
restaurant. This window sells pizza by the slice, as well as
whole, made-to-order pizzas. All seating here is outdoors;
many tables are situated under a high awning which helps to
shield Guests from the sun and rain, but don't expect
significant comfort here during very hot or inclement
weather.
Aronda recently stopped here for a pizza, and
while she found the pizza itself to be very yummy, there were
a few issues surrounding this eatery which concerned her.
Unfortunately, while fresh-brewed iced tea is served in
Spoodles, neither brewed iced tea nor even "tea on
tap" (from the soda fountain) is offered through the
Pizza Window. Additionally, this is one of several restaurants
at Walt Disney World which has decided to follow the
Disneyland model in which one size of fountain drink is
offered, and you can be assured that the size you'll get isn't
large! A nice feature is the use of pagers to alert you that
your order is ready (if you've ordered a whole pizza or you're
waiting on fresh slices), so you can wander away a short
distance or go ahead and claim a table while you're waiting on
your food.
The Pizza Window is one of several locations
where BoardWalk Guests can utilize their refillable mugs, in
addition to BoardWalk Bakery and Leaping
Horse Libations pool bar. An interesting thing about
BoardWalk's refillable mugs is that the mugs themselves aren't
actually "refilled" after the initial fill at the
time of purchase. Because there are no self-service fountains
at BoardWalk, the Guest would have to hand their mugs to an
employee to refill. However, to avoid the need for the
employees to handle used mugs (causing sanitation questions to
arise), the Guest presents the mug and receives a paper cup
filled with the beverage of his or her choice. Hmmm...the
Guest is left to either pour the cup contents into the mug, or
simply use the mug as a "proof of purchase" of the
refillable mug concept and drink from the paper cup. Either
way, this concept can create a nuisance quickly for a Guest
sent with several mugs to refill!
If you're longing for an oven-baked pizza with
your favorite toppings, consider stopping by the Pizza Window
to grab one. The BoardWalk is just a short distance from
International Gateway in Epcot, and a 15-minute walk or boat
ride from Disney-MGM Studios. Remember, a large pizza can feed
several people, so you may be able to have a
less-expensive--and group-pleasing--meal here!
