Wonders of Life Pavilion
(photos below)
This pavilion, located in Epcot Future World between
Universe of Energy and Mission:
Space, boasts several
attractions inside. Beckoning visitors inside with its huge
DNA molecule out front, the pavilion is shaped like a large
hemisphere.
"The Making of Me" is a film presentation about,
well, sex--the origin of babies is a more accurate
description--aimed at educating the younger set about this
subject. Cranium Command looks into the brain of an adolescent
boy, while Body Wars is a motion simulator (functionally
equivalent to Star Tours in the Disney-MGM Studios) in which
the audience is miniaturized and injected into a patient with
a splinter, in an effort to demonstrate the action of white
blood cells on objects and organisms which invade the body.
Additional minor interactive exhibits and a film (Goofy about
Health) round out the offerings here--a gift shop area and
food counter offering healthy snack items are also present.
The pavilion is large and open, but it does appear to be a
bit dated (even though it opened a number of years after the
park debuted). In recent years, attendance here has dropped
off considerably, such that now this pavilion is only open
seasonally. In fact, while the pavilion still appears in the
Epcot guidemaps, it goes without a description now. It seems
that after MetLife (the insurance company which uses Snoopy,
the Peanuts character, in its advertising) discontinued
sponsorship of this pavilion, Wonders of Life went downhill
quickly. It was a festive place, especially when the MetLife
folks were running their small remote-controlled blimp inside
the building!!
With the future of this pavilion uncertain at best, if you
should happen to find it open during your visit, do stop in
for a look. The attractions are fun, and since few people show
up anymore, you'll certainly find it to be a good place to sit
down and relax!!
